Māti

Torrential rains every monsoon worsen the flood situation in Assam. Each year millions of people are affected across numerous districts with a constant rise in fatalities. Annually, the state administration does its best to tackle the situation by moving communities and villages near the rivers to safer places as their settlements, crops and fields are inundated by flood waters. The public cry is always about the ineffectual bureaucracy and aid programs on the ground, as lakhs of rupees are spent, often with little accountability. Māti is a community made, short documentary film, multi-media and communication strategy that attempts to understand this cycle. Māti is community initiative in collaboration with Wenceslaus Mendes.
